Zabbix in IDA: open problems at the right customer
Zabbix monitors reliably - but it knows nothing about customers, contracts or tickets. IDA fetches the open problems, maps them to customers through the host groups and shows them in the same overview as the other sources.
What IDA reads from Zabbix
- Open problems from severity Warning upwards, with host and trigger
- Severity: High and Disaster as critical, Warning and Average as warning
- Whether a problem is acknowledged in Zabbix or suppressed by a maintenance
- Host groups including subgroups for the customer reference
What IDA does with it
- Problems from Zabbix sit in the same overview as Checkmk, PRTG, UniFi, N-able, Server-Eye and NinjaOne
- A problem becomes a ticket without retyping host and customer
- What is acknowledged or in maintenance in Zabbix does not ring in IDA
- Acknowledge and schedule maintenance straight from the alert - both land in Zabbix, not just in IDA
Who it is for
Providers running Zabbix who do not want problems and tickets in two separate tools - especially when customers are modelled as host groups and other customers sit on a different monitoring system.
Setup: Store the address of the Zabbix frontend and an API token (Zabbix 6.0 and later). The account behind the token needs read access to the host groups; maintenance additionally needs user type Admin and write access. Then map the host groups to customers - manually, subgroups inherit. A self-signed certificate is pinned during the first connection test instead of switching verification off.
Every integration in IDA has its own switch. Turn it off and it disappears completely - including the columns, filters and reports that belong to it. You only see what you actually use.
Vendor website: Zabbix. Zabbix is a trademark of its respective owner; IDA connects to the system technically, which implies no partnership.

Questions about the Zabbix integration
Can IDA acknowledge problems or set maintenance in Zabbix?
Yes. Acknowledge from the alert detail - the message lands in Zabbix with your name. Maintenance is scheduled straight from the alert, also in advance; it is created in Zabbix and covers the whole host. Maintenance needs user type Admin and write access for the account behind the token; viewing and acknowledging only need read access.
Which Zabbix versions are supported?
6.0 and later. IDA asks for the version on every run and adapts - authentication and parameters differ between 6.0, 6.4 and 7.x. Upgrading the installation needs no change in IDA.
How does a problem find the right customer?
Through the host groups you map once. Nothing is matched by name - identical group names at different customers are too common. If a host sits in groups of different customers, IDA does not guess and uses the default customer.
