Alternative to Jira Service Management
IDA as an alternative to Jira Service Management
Jira Service Management is strong where service and software development meet. For an IT service provider that looks after customers and bills for its work, a lot stays outside: contracts, time, invoices.
Fair play: Jira Service Management is a mature ITSM tool with a large marketplace and tight integration with Jira.

Jira Service Management and IDA compared
| Jira Service Management | IDA | |
|---|---|---|
| Vendor & hosting | Atlassian; cloud with selectable data residency (incl. Germany/EU) from the Standard plan | German vendor, built and hosted in Germany |
| Self-hosting | Data Center is being discontinued: end of sale 30 Mar 2026, end of life 28 Mar 2029 | Fully operated, no infrastructure of your own |
| Pricing model | Per agent, tiered by plan; marketplace apps often cost extra | One price, all functions included |

Which fits whom?
When Jira Service Management fits
Jira Service Management fits when service tickets should be closely linked to development tasks, releases and sprints in Jira, or the Atlassian stack is already a given.
When IDA is the better choice
IDA fits when you look after customers and bill them: time runs against the contract, quotas count down, devices and licences belong to the customer, and the invoice is created in the same system. Text snippets speed up recurring time entries, and remote sessions are booked like calls.
Moving over: Switching: connect mailboxes, import customers and contracts, set up request types as categories and help topics. Open cases run out in the old system.
Questions about IDA as a Jira Service Management alternative
We use Jira for development - does IDA still fit?
Yes. IDA handles customer operations and billing; development tasks can stay in Jira. Cases can be linked through the IDA API or webhooks; there is no ready-made Jira connector.
What does the end of Jira Data Center mean?
Atlassian is phasing out the self-hosted Data Center edition: end of sale for new customers was 30 Mar 2026, and end of life is 28 Mar 2029. Anyone running it on-premises today has to move anyway - to the Atlassian cloud or to another system.
What does IDA cost?
29 EUR per named user and 59 EUR per pool licence per month, all functions included, no marketplace add-ons.
Where is the data?
In Germany, operated by S³ IT GmbH, in line with the GDPR.
Can I try IDA?
